A joint official team from Forest Department and Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Department has conducted a survey to contain possible outbreak of Bird flu at Yaingangpokpi Lokchao and Moreh area from November 19 to 20.The official team comprising of RO of Forest Department Thoidingjam Loken, Disease Specialist of Veterinary Department Dr K Gopal, Dr Ng Ibotombi and Dr S Thoiba collected 66 blood samples of domestic fowls like ducks and hens during the survey.
The team also visited Kwatha and conducted the survey there.
According to information given by the villagers of Kwatha, around 2000 poultry birds died after it was kept along with a variety of hen brought from Myanmar, locally known as Keitoi, during June-July this year.
Although the matter was reported to the Veterinary office, as none came to find out the matter, the cause of the death could not be deciphered, they said.
At Moreh Bazar, street corner meetings were organised to sensitise the people on Bird flu.
At Yaingangpokpi Lokchao Sanctuary, the team studied and monitored the wild birds and other migratory birds to find out possible carriers of the dread virus.
Talking to mediapersons after the survey at Forest IB, Moreh, Dr Ng Ibotombi said that the blood samples collected of the wild and domestic fowls from Tamenglong, Loktak Lake and Moreh would send to High Security Animal Disease Laboratory at Bhopal for necessary testing.
The sample of the carcass of the Cormorant recovered would not be among the samples to be tested, he said, adding that the results of the test would be known within a month.
