Imphal, September 19:
The students' union of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy has submitted a memorandum to the Director of the Academy, Governor Dr SS Sidhu, to upgrade the Academy to the status of a deemed university so that the certificates issued to the students are recognised across the country.
In a statement, the student body said that they have been boycotting classes since July 22 this year to either upgrade JNMDA to a deemed university or affiliate it to a recognised university.
Along with representatives of MSF, the students of JNMDA had even gone to Delhi to present their case to the Sangit Natak Akademi, said the statement and added that the decision to opt for a deemed university was taken during a meeting held on September 16 at 4 pm.
