Union Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee is scheduled to visit to Manipur on September 21, according to sources, reports NNN.
Reports said that the Union Defence Minister would land at Leimakhong Army base and address the troops there.
Pranab Mukherjee will be on a three-day visit to the North-East States from September 20 during which he will review the security scenario in Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, added sources.
Although there is no official confirmation about the Defence Minister�s proposed visit to Manipur, according to sources he is coming to Nagaland on a routine visit during which he will be briefed about the security scenario by top Army officials in the rank of Generals based in Nagaland and Manipur.
According to reports, Mukherjee will embark on his trip to the region after holding a meeting with officials of the Army�s Eastern Command in Kolkata.
He will arrive at the 3 Corps Hqs at 4 pm on September 20 and will stay there overnight.
On Sep 21, he will leave for Leimakhong, and will address the troops besides having an interaction with the IGAR (South).
On the same day the Defence Minister will leave for Aizawl where he is scheduled to inaugurate an Army recruiting office followed by his visit to Tezpur where he will be briefed about the security scenario by the GOC, 4 Corps.
On Sepember 22, the Defence Minister is scheduled to hold meetings with Army officials at Tawang and Tenga in Arunachal Pradesh after which he will fly back to Tezpur and stay the night there.
