Imphal, September 19:
A joint meeting attended by representatives of various women organisations and civil societies unanimously adopted a five point resolution regarding the merciless murder of 21 year old Salam Punam Devi of Nongmaikhong Makha Leikai.
Members present at the meeting strongly condemning the brutal murder of Punam also resolved to launch intense agitation in case group/s concerned fail to honour demand for arrest and punishment of the guilty by tomorrow.
Punam was murdered after sexual assault, decried a joint press statement.
Todays meeting resolution also include withdrawal of decision adopted by JAC against the killing of Salam Punam and women bodies deciding on future of action on the State level, public access to medical report of the victim girl and mass agitation for an indefinite period from September 21 onwards.
It also flayed threat and intimidation to Punams family by some armed youths identifying themselves as PREPAK cadres against disclosing facts.
The meeting was attended by representatives of AMKIL, Women Association for Civic Action Kangleipak, NH-53 Kanglei Ching-tam Leimalup, Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup, Keishamthong Leikai Tara Apunba Nupi Lup, Kangleichal, Iramdam Kanba Apunba Meira Lup, All Manipur Sinai Lamjing Lup, Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup (Khwairamband Keithel) as well as the JAC.
Meanwhile, vehemently condemning the merciless killing of Salam Punam, DESAM, AMSU and MSF demanded clarification from group/s involved in the criminal act.
Punam was found hanging at her side-yard on September 17 morning.
Observing that the killing reflects attitude of blasphemous conduct with no respect for human dignity and basic rights, the student bodies in a joint statement interpreted the conduct as fallout of genocide principle advocated by the group concerned which only unity of the people can defeat.
Such criminal conduct also belittles intense agitation launched by the general public to remove AFSPA from the State as there is no difference in security force or UG groups committing excesses upon civilians, stated the three student organisations.
