Personnel of 24 Assam Rifles allegedly shot dead an innocent civilian today morning at about 6 at B Bongyang village on the Indo-Myanmar border.
The body was found abandoned at a spot locally known at Maibi Lok and significantly the body bore tell tale signs of being administered first aid.
The deceased is identified as Holkhothang Baite (47) of B Bongyang village.
Villagers said that as usual the deceased had left home early morning with his licensed gun to hunt.
The post commander of 24 AR at H Mangjang said that they had gone to B Bongyang village on receiving information.
On seeing Holkhothang with a gun, the personnel challenged him to stop, but he took to his heels forcing the security men to open fire, he explained.
The CO of 24 AR also rushed to the village to pacify the villagers.
A meeting of the HTC has been convened tomorrow and future course of action will be taken as per the resolutions of the meeting.
Firing: Unidentified gunmen reportedly fired several rounds at Old Bazar area of Churachandpur district at around 11 am today.
However, a team of police which rushed in to find out the matter came back clueless.
