Exuding confidence of checking anti-social activities with the re-assignment of police commandos in counter-insurgency operations, DGP AK Parashar asserted that strong punitive action would be taken up against any security personnel found involved in misconduct.
Talking to reporters on the sideline of an arms exhibition which were seized from members of different militant organisations by Imphal East district police today, the police chief informed that commandos have been re-assigned with the task of in counter-insurgency (CI) operations.
A large number of police commandos were earlier utilised in escorting goods carriers during the ANSAM sponsored economic blockade resulting in man power shortage to deal with the law and order problems, reminded the DGP.
In a confident tone, the DGP said that the situation will improve with the commandos now concentrating on CI Ops.
Deliberating on other issues like pending promotion of different ranks in the police department, which the police chief assured he would address at the earliest, Parashar also lauded Imphal East Superintendent of Police Kailun, his subordinate officers and personnel of the district police for their achievements in CI operations.
The DGP also handed over a certain amount of money as a token of appreciation to Additional SP (IE) Suresh Singh for his exemplary contribution to the police force.
While reposing faith on the rank and file of the police department in performing their tasks purposefully, sincerely and with dedication, the DGP nevertheless sent out a strong warning of stringent action against any truant officers and personnel.
There will be no leniency if any personnel is found indulging in illegal and criminal activities as security establishment cannot tolerate its own personnel putting a �blot on our uniform� reiterated the DGP.
On the nuisance created by masked hoodlums particularly in the capital districts, he said there is no let up efforts to check the recent spate of loot and harassment by these anti- social elements.
The recent arrest of an IRB man for attempted robbery has tarnished the true image of the police.
Fitting action would be taken against the accused according to the law, asserted Parashar.
On the State police set-up, he disclosed that a draft proposal would soon be furnished to the Centre regarding overall development and modernisation of police.
Prior to the interaction with media personnel, the DGP along with some senior police officials witnessed arms and ammunition recovered during CI operations by Imphal East district police along with army and other para-military forces since the beginning of the current year.
The exhibited weapons include three AK-56 rifles with 68 rounds, one AK butt, two AK-47 rifles along with two rounds, one lathode grenade gun and 14 bombs, four SM carbines with 10 rounds, 11 hand grenades, 10 WT sets and 12 small arms.
Speaking to the media personnel, SP Kailun highlighting shortage of man power and lack of infrastructure for the district police cited astuteness of senior officers for continuity on police mobility and relentless conduct of CI operations in the district along with army, Assam Rifles and CPMF deployed in the State.
