NCB set to dispose contraband items

Imphal, September 19: Over 4000 kgs of ganja and a huge quantity of psychotropic substances seized by personnel of Narcotics Control Bureau Regional office, Imphal would be disposed off here very soon.

The items to be disposed off include 4673 kgs of ganja, 14,236 (120 ml) of expectorant, 1,0828,600 diazepam tablets, 12,587 unused labels of the same tablets etc, a highly placed source in the Bureau informed The Sangai Express.

The ganja was seized in November last year from Tadubi area while the others were seized in different operations, said the source adding that the contraband stuff would be burnt.

NDPS Court has already given the permission to dispose off the items, said the source and added that the Manipur Pollution Control Board too has recommended the disposal of the same.

The only point left now is to fix the date for the disposal.

A three man committee constituted for the purpose will fix the date soon, added the source.

The Committee headed by NCB Zonal Director as Chairman and Assistant Director of the same office and Deputy Commissioner (Customs) as members will hold a meeting at Imphal soon to fix the date and time for the disposal, said the source further.
