Imphal, October 14: A cadre of the NSCN (IM) who tried to abduct a doctor from the Primary Health Centre at Pallel Maning Leikai under Thoubal district was over powered by the patients and patient parties and handed over to the police after a sound thrashing.

According to reports received from the spot, the NSCN (IM) cadre came to the Primary Health Centre at about 12.30 pm today and after whipping out a gun asked the doctor on duty, Dr Y Rameshore of Thoubal Haokha to come to Komlathabi.

Not amused by the threat issued to the doctor, the patients and the patient parties pounced on the gunman and after disarming soundly thrashed him and later handed him over to the police.

The NSCN (IM) cadre is identified as Menai Maring (24) of K Tuisan village near Aimol.

According to the IM man, he along with one Paul Lamkang were sent to bring the doctor to Komlathabi by one Simon Tangkhul.

The gun recovered from the IM cadre is an M-20 pistol.

Four bullets were also recovered.

He was later handed over to the Kakching police station.
