The printing of Meetei Mayek and Roman script text books for introducing in the educational institutions from the next academic session is almost completed.
Within a short period the whole process of publishing these books would be completed.
These books will be introduced in lieu of Bengali script books in classes 1 & 2 commencing from the coming academic session.
Joint secretary of BSEM Ph Nandakumar informed The Sangai Express that altogether 12 books, six each for classes 1 & 2 would be included in the syllabi of the two classes.
He said the Meetei Mayek scripts would be taught in the valley districts while the Roman script texts are meant for the hill districts but there is no compulsion that one community should study either one of the two texts.
Teachers for these scripts will be given training by the Language cell of the State education authorities.
The source added that BSEM would take up the process of publishing such texts for classes 3 & 4 by the next year as agreed in the MOU signed between MEELAL and the State Govt.The prescribed texts are Class-1: (1) Manipuri Londam 1-Meetei Mayek/Roman script -60,000 / 40,000 copies (2) Manipuri Neinarol 1-Meetei Mayek/Roman script- 60,000/ 40,000 copies (3) Mathematics 1- Meetei Mayek/Roman script - 40,000/ 10,000 copies.
