Imphal, October 14:
Stressing that the Kuki Inpi, Manipur is the apex body of the Kuki community, its president P Gangte today asserted that KIM will not brook any attempts to over ride its importance from any quarters.
Addressing newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, the Kuki leader said that KIM will meet any challenges posed to it by any other force and added that KIM will work earnestly to unite all the Kuki people and to promote peace in the State.
Going back to the history of KIM, Gangte said that it was established in 1993 with him as the general secretary.
Gangte added that he was elected as the president of KIM on June 29, 2002 for a term of four years defeating two other candidates.
However, there were attempts to portray KIM in the wrong light and another body christened KIM also sprang up, he added.
Along with the help of the people, the real KIM was able to wipe out the counterfeit KIM, said Gangte and added that the fake KIM was even boycotted.
The controversy did not end there, said Gangte and added that when KIM asked the Kuki Students' Organisation to clean up its act last year, the student body not only refused to listen but even went to the extent to saying that KIM should be abolished.
However this will not deter KIM, he asserted and added that no efforts will be spared to ensure that KIM flourishes and renders its service to the Kuki people.
KIM is ready to hold fresh elections and an election committee will soon be formed for the next election, informed Gangte.
The KIM president further said that the territorial integrity of Manipur is non-negotiable.
