The second installment of fund under National Green Corps (NGC) programme, instituted under Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India with the objective of spreading environmental awareness among the school students through setting up of Eco-Clubs, has been distributed in respect of Imphal West district today.
The cheque amount of the funds were distributed during a function held at the conference hall of Directorate of Education (S) at Lamphel and was attended by Officer on Special Duty of Manipur Population Control Board P Shimray, Senior Environtalmeal Engineer (SEE) of the Board N Minaketan, DI (School) L Somorjit and AI (School) Sonamani, on behalf of ZEO Imphal West who could not be present at the occasion.
The Eco-Clubs, NGC has been set up with the main objective of spreading environmental awareness among the students of the schools.
In all, 100 schools were selected for the programme and eco clubs set up in these schools located in Imphal West district.
Manipur Population Control Board is the State nodal agency for implementation of the programme.
Speaking at the function, SEE Minaketan said distribution of fund for the first installment of the whole State has been completed and the funds which were distributed today is the second installment.
Prior to this, the fund for eco-clubs of Ukhrul and Imphal East has already been distributed, he informed.
Each of the eco-clubs would be entitled to get an around of Rs 1000 and it would be provided to the respective schools in two installments, he said.
The distribution of fund even for the first installment has not yet be completed in other North Eastern States, the SEE said, adding that the Manipur is ahead of others in this regard.
