The result of the bye-election to Yaiskul Assembly Constituency was the victory of the Congress but it's an indication of dying popularity of the Congress, observed president of Manipur People Party (MPP), Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
Janata Dal (Secular) Soubam Rajendro also observed that the result shows that people no more support to Congress even he admitted himself loss in the election.
Speaking at a press conference held here at MPP office today, the president recalled and said Congress got only 9799 votes out of total 23499 voters of the constituency.
Out of total 19616 votes casted, 9817 votes were against the Congress.
This indicated that majority of the voters were against the Congress, he observed.
Reiterating that the result indicated fall down of Congress popularity, Nimaichand said in the next Assembly election which would come up in 2012 condition of Congress will be more worsen.
Expressing happiness to the mandate of the people, he also lauded the voters of Yaiskul A/C and also the Congress candidate E Suraj for winning the bye-election.
He also appealed Suraj to serve the state as representative of the people of Yaiskul A/C.On the other hand, he alleged that Congress is trying to divert the issue of July 23 incident which has become not only national but also an international issue.
He also asked when the students of the state will able to attain education.
As a regional party of the state, MPP is trying its best to increase its popularity by intensifying its campaign in the hill areas, he further said.
The president also greeted the people of the state particularly following Christian religion and Rongmei community on Christmas and Gan-ngai which falls on December 29 .
He also informed the media persons that the party will celebrate its 42th foundation day on December 26 .
Even though Congress candidate won the bye-election, the result showed that people are against Congress, Rajendrakumar speaking to media persons today said.
He also alleged opposition parties behind the Congress winning the bye-election stating that due to a wrong step of the opposition Congress took the opportunity.
