Land at Jiribam sub-division of Imphal east district bordering with Assam is sinking day by day due to heavy erosion at the river marking the inter-state border on the Manipur side.
The sinking of state boundary was also witnessed by a media team who recently visited the area.
Jiri River is marking the boundary between Assam and Manipur and the sinking is taking place at Gulador, Lakhimpur ward no.8 and Kamalghat while the areas of the Likhimpur and Ramgeijang etc of Assam are enlarging day by day.
Residents of the area is feeling fear of eroding more land at Kamalghat side and loss two to three acres of land in the next rainy season if the state authority takes up embankment works.
Sinking of land due top river bank erosion has been witnessing at the river bank in the last around five year, said the residents.
The ADC of the sub-division, Y Iboyaima said that his office will try to include a work programme for construction of retaining walls at the river bank to check further erosion in the next work programme of the ADC.
