On his 14th death anniversary, a memorial stone was unveiled to remember late Luithui Gonmei of Dailong village of Tamenglong district with Rev Mansi Gangmei, Christian Literature & Education Secretary of Rongmei Naga Baptist Association (RNBA) as presiding minister here yesterday at his residence, Tamenglong district HQs today.
Wreaths and flowers were also offered to Lt Luithui Gonmei by various individuals, social organisers, near and dear once, family and relatives of Lt Luithui Gonmei.
Late Luithui Gonmei was eldest son of Lt.Ramgong Gonmei and Meisuanguiliu.
He was one among the pioneer leaders of Zeliangrong community.
He received a silver medal from the President of India and a Commendation Certificate from the Manipur Government in recognition of his out standing zeal, devotion and high quality of service, rendered by him in the year 1991 .
He was a Christian and educated person and a government servant who lead the people to strengthen the unity and development of the Zeliangrong Community and the culture.
He was posted at Tamei as SDO incharge in 1995 .
He was shot dead while returning from spot inspection and distribution of relief materials to the displace persons of Taroulong village.
He was survived by his wife and ten children.
The unveiling programme was well attended by prominent Christian leaders, local MLAs, district level officers, social workers and beloved friends and relatives of the Lt Luithui Gonmei.
It is worth mentioned that with the efforts of his children a public library in Lt Luithui Gonmei names had opened last year at Tamenglong District HQs.
