Moreh, December 28:
A good batting display from Peter Paul and splendid bowling of Sonu helped South Indian cricket team (SICT) record an emphatic 102 runs victory over SRYC (senior) in the Pongal Cricket Mens Tournament 2005-06 at Sunrise Youth club ground today.
The tournament is being held under the sponsorship of Tamil Sangam Moreh.
Opener Peter Paul, who was later adjudged man of the match, scored an unbeaten 79 after SICT opted to bat first on winning the toss while Sonu claimed five rival wickets in the virtually one-sided contest.
The winning side posted 196 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the 30 over game.
Parthiban and Sasang also contributed to the SICT total with useful knocks of 33 and 22 runs respectively.
SRYC's Vishal Jaiswal was the most successful bowler with three wickets from the six over quota.
SRYC also paid dearly for wayward bowling conceding 48 run as extras.
The SRYC run chase hit roadblock from the onset as the top five batsmen returned to the dressing shed for 27 runs.
Sonu and Singam (2) engineered the SRYC collapse as the latter's innings folded up with only 94 runs on the board.
R Manivannan remained not out on 30 - his third in the tournament where he ran out of partners.
With the win SICT is in sight of the semi finals having culled 3 points from two matches while SRYC is on two from as many matches.
The top four teams from the six team Super league round would advance to last four round starting from January 7 till 8, 2006.
