Imphal, December 28:
Contending that Pukhrambam Ratikanta Meetei and Laishram Brajamani Singh are not UNLF activists as claimed by security forces, AMSU, Bishnupur District Committee has demanded the unconditional release of the two by tomorrow failing which an indefinite general strike would be clamped in the entire Bishnupur district from December 30 onwards.
Ratikumar is the finance secretary of AMSU, Bishnupur unit while Brajamani is a volunteer, said a press release of the student body adding that Ratikumar was picked up while playing cricket at Nambol Chingmang and the latter (Brajamani) hauled up by personnel of Bishnupur police commandos from near Nambol Hr Sec School while he was returning home after a familial engagement.
The commando personnel then whisked the two towards Maibam Lokpa Ching post of 22 Maratha Light Infantry where a confession was forcibly extracted identifying themselves as KYKL activists, alleged the AMSU unit in a press statement and contended that arrest memos signed by ASI Th Naba Singh were furnished to respective families the next day.
Regarding claim of AR PRO that the arrests were effected by the 22 MLI and Imphal West commandos, the student body rubbished the same as baseless and an attempt to cover up misadventure of law enforcing agencies particularly the police commandos who had gained notoriety for framing innocent persons with concocted charges after arrest.
It also refreshed commando personnel that when in captive confessions could be extracted as desired by the captors.
