SSU beat YWC 1-0 in Tiddim trophy opener

Imphal, February 12: Uttam's late strike fetched full points for SSU, Singjamei against YWC, Thambalkhong in the opening match of the 3rd Sarajeevan Tiddim Trophy Football Tournament 2006 at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.

The inaugural programme of the prestigious football tournament was held with MLAs L Ibomcha and S Natum as the chief guest and president respectively while patron member of the tournament organiser Tiddim Road Athletic Union L Saratchandra Singh graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

After a goalless draw in the first half that witnessed pulsating competition between the two CC Meet finalists, SSU broke the stalemate in the 82nd minute when Uttam curled a free kick from the top of the Thambalkhong box found the left corner.

The free kick was awarded when Benjamin Kamsom trying to clear a Gaichungam Kamson pile-driver handled the ball near the box.

Charan Rai stepped forward and tapped the ball with Uttam finishing off in style.

Gaichungam was also booked in the 61st minute for infringement. NACO, Nambul Mapal and NEROCA, Laipham Khunou will play tomorrow at 2 pm.
