A convention of North East Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society was held yesterday at the jubilee hall of RIMS, said a DIPR press release.
The inaugural function was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister, L Nandakumar as chief guest and Dr Manglem as functional president, mentioned the release.
In his address, Nandakumar noted that the convention would benefit enormously not only the doctors of the State but also all the doctors of the North Eastern States.
He observed the need for more such conventions in the State to improve the expertise of obstetrics and gynaecologists.
Informing that the State is lagging far behind other states in the health sector, Nanadakumar acknowledged the necessity to increase the number of gynaecologists to meet the hardships and inconveniences faced during child delivery.
The first priority of all medical practitioners in the State should be to save the new born infants from the jaws of HIV/AIDS, he added.
The minister also appealed to all concerned to successfully implement the Rural Health Care Mission initiated by the Union Government.
In his presidential speech, Dr Manglem asserted that united struggle and cooperation has become the call of the hour.
To mark the inauguration of the convention participated by about 30 doctors from outside the State and more than 130 doctors of Manipur, a souvenir was released by the chief guest, it added.
