Imphal, February 25:
Acting on a complaint petition contending that one commando SI of Thoubal Dist has demanded a huge money for release of a seized vehicle, the Manipur Human Rights Commission has today asked the DGP to submit a report on the matter within two weeks.
The proceedings followed a complaint petition filed by one Charanga Mophul Maring (40) of Karongthel Village in Chandel Dist.
On Feb 5, one Shaktiman truck was seized by the commando SI without spelling out any valid reason and no case was registered against the seizure, the complainant said.
The SI refused to release the seized vehicle unless he is paid a sum of Rs 1.2 lakhs, Charanga said.
While seeking a report on the matter from the DGP, the rights panel also asked the SI in question to submit his reply within the same period.
