Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam has stated the Government has taken up steps for providing job reservation to sportspersons of the State in third and fourth grade posts.
The Minister disclosed this while speaking at the occasion of Player�s Day, 2005 function at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.
The function held under the auspices of Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur felicitated weightlifter N Kunjarani Devi who secured fourth position in the Athens Olympic, 2004 by giving a reward of Rs 1 lakh besides honouring 591 National level players, 45 International level players and 116 officials.
YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam who presided over the function informed that efforts are also being made to increase the TA/DA of the sportspersons.
For further development of sports in the State, the Government will soon be introducing scientific application of sports in the State soon, he assured the gathering In his address as chief guest of the function, Commerce and Industries Minister N Mangi Singh noted that sports have played a major role in introducing Manipur to the world besides providing great opportunities to the players for recruitment in Central services.
He said the State Government has now enough money for maintenance of sports infrastructure and accordingly a full-fledged National Sports Academy (NSA) would be coming up in Manipur.
He also hoped that with the setting up of the NSA, the State will be able to train and produce more sportsmen and women of calibre who can compete in Olympics and bring more laurels to the State and the Nation.
