Imphal, February 25: Unidentified gunmen shot dead the Churachandpur town commander of the ZRA yesterday at about 9.30 pm at Dorcas Veng located about 3 kms from CCpur police station.

The deceased is identified as T Thangkholian alias Steven (24) of Thanlon and staying at Lamka Sim Veng.

He was earlier arrested by BSF along with arms in 2003.Sources said that the victim was inside the house of the chowkidar of Dorcas Veng EBCC when an unidentified person asked him to step out of the house for a brief chat.

Once outside, the unidentified person along his companion waiting outside shot dead Thangkholian and also fired a volley of shots while retreating from the scene, said sources.

Fearing further trouble, some youth asked all shops to shut down.

No organisation has claimed responsibility for the killing so far.
