With the organisational elections of both the Congress and the CPI, important constituents of the SPF Govt, just around the corner, workers of both the parties have stepped up their preparation for electing suitable candidates to various posts of their respective parties.
For the Congress party, the decision to put up a consensus candidate or to undergo an election process for electing the MPCC's president post is likely to be known only after March 15.However, April 30 has been fixed as the date for holding election to the MPCC's president post if the Congress workers fail to pick out a consensus choice for the president's post.
Informing that election process for electing one PCC member from each of the 60 Assembly Constituency has been finalised, a well placed source said that election process for electing 14 district presidents will begin from March 7 and conclude on March 15.Even though the names of the elected PCC members have not been officially announced, heated debates are already doing the round among the like minded workers of the CLP and the elected PCC members for electing the person of their choice to the MPCC's president post, said the source further.
The number of voters eligible to cast their vote in the MPCC president is about 80 which include 60 PCC members and 40 dist presidents.
Sources also informed that RK Theko who had been eyeing for the MPCC's president post some time back has already given up the race for the post and added that Chief Minister O Ibobi is on the lookout for a sincere person and a like minded politician with a history of a clean political career background to occupy the prestigious post.
The race of the post has also been joined by Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing and Lok Sabha MP T Meinya who are expected to put up their nominees for the president election.
Mention may be made here that RK Theko had already expressed his desire to hand over the MPCC president's post to a politician from the Hill dists on the ground that such a move would not only strengthen the party but would also emotional bonding between the hill and valley people.
Meanwhile, the election of the CPI State Secretary will be held on the concluding day of the CPI's 18th State conference scheduled to be held at Lamlai from March 5 to 7.CPI members are most likely choose its State secretary by putting up a consensus candidate but will hold election for the post if the members fail to arrive to a consensus candidate, said the source.
Informing that all CPI's dist conferences will conclude on Feb 27 and delegates elected during the conference will participate in the State Conference at Lamlai, source said that election to the CPI Sate Secretary post will be held only after constituting a 87 member State Council.
