Imphal, February 25:
Manipur Human Rights Commission has today asked the School Education Commissioner and Director of SCERT to furnish a detailed report on the functioning of vocational education system in the State.
The rights panel issued the directive after impleading the two officials as respondents in the complaint petition filed by the aggrieved vocational students who have been demanding adequate study materials and other required infrastructures.
While registering the matter as an MHRC case for inquiry under the relevant provisions of the protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, the Commission headed by its chairman Justice (Retd) WA Shishak asked the duo to submit their replies on Feb 28 at 11 am.
Owing to lack of infrastructures and teachers, vocational educational courses have not been taught properly at all for the last 10 months even as examinations of the same are scheduled to begin from March 3, the students, who are also the office-bearers of All Manipur Vocational Students Union said.
How can we appear in the examination without learning anything ?, they asked.
The vocational courses are mainly based on practical classes, but in the absence of teachers and laboratory equipment, how are we to our learnt lesson, they countered while lamenting lack of response from the side of State authorities despite repeated appeals and launching a series of agitation.
It may be recalled here one of the vocational students identified as M Premier attempted to self-immolate at the gate of Chief Ministers bungalow during the course of the agitation.
