Imphal, September 28:
Taking serious note of the presence of two self appointed presidents of the Komrem Union, the United Komrem Organisation, (UKRO) has asked the two presidents to step down and pave the way for fresh elections to be held.
In a statement issued by its information and publicity secretary from Thangjing Hills, UKRO said that the Komrem Union has been working for the welfare of the Komrem people with one interim president since time immemorial.
However today two persons, namely Lalkhopao Kom and Alal Phoitak have appointed themselves as presidents of the Komrem Union along with their respective supporters.
Taking strong exception against such an unprecedented situation, UKRO and its armed wing the United Rem Revolutionary Front (URRF) have asked the two presidents to step down.
Their supporters were also asked to stop functioning.
Urging the general public, social workers, village chiefs, KRSU, KRBCA and officers not to support either of the two parties, UKRO and URCC asked the two parties to dissolve their unionship within one month with effect from September 27 and to publish the same in the dailies and AIR.
UKRO has also requested the election commission and the KRSU to conduct fresh election and produce a qualified and respected person as the president of KRU.
