Even as the controversy over the disappearance of a large quantity of fertilisers during transit is raging, Moreh police reportedly intercepted MLA Vivek Raj Wangkhem along with four trucks of fertilisers intended to be smuggled to Myanmar from Moreh Bazar area last night at around 9.30.According to sources, the registration numbers of the fertiliser laden Tata trucks which have been seized by the police are RJ-14-15-1881, AS01-M162, AS05-B5881 and MN06-T0293,.A total of 1200 bags, 300 bags in each truck, were being carried when the police intercepted them.
The brand/type of the fertiliser, however, has not been ascertained as yet, the source said, adding that the police are also yet to register and take up a case in this connection.
Information received by the press said that the DC of Thoubal District had issued the necessary permit for taking the fertiliser-laden trucks to Chandel district through Pallel.
The loaded trucks were being brought by MLA of Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency Vivek Raj Wangkhem when the police intercepted them at Moreh Market area, the source said, adding that all the four fertiliser-laden trucks have been detained inside the complex of Moreh Police Station awaiting the required documents and papers from the Minister concerned.
Meanwhile, as the accused MLA has left Imphal for Kolkata this afternoon, he could not be contacted to get his side of the story.
