RIMS Director Prof L Fimate has inaugurated the two day training cum workshop on 'voluntarily confidential counselling and testing' in the Microbiology Department of the medical institute in which delegates from Assam, Nagaland and Meghalaya are taking part, Informed a press statement.
In his address, prof Fimate iterated on importance of voluntary testing saying that such practice enables a person to understand his/her sero-status so that the individual concerned may take necessary precautionary measures to stay safe.
Conveying of NACO targeting establishment of 700 centres throughout the country during 1999-2006, he also mentioned of RIMS being one of three model centres in India.
Speaking on the occasion, head of department of Microbiology Dr Ng Brajachand highlighted on gradual increase (1 percent) of HIV positive cases among women in Nagaland and Manipur.
