Imphal, September 28:
Decrying noninclusion of other minority groups other than in the one man Manipur State Minorities Commission, All Zeliangrong Students' Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) urged the Chief Minister for intervention and doing justice to people of other minorities community.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister, AZSU president G Ningthaidai maintained that the one-Man Manipur State Minorities Commission has been implementing various welfare schemes specially for the Muslim minorities while leaving people of other minorities community.
Pointing out that the Government of India vide notification SO No.816 (E) dated 23rd October, 1993 empowered the State Government of Manipur to constitute Minorities Commission and implement various welfare schemes, the memorandum noted that Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis) have also been clearly declared as minorities community.
It is surprising that the Government of Manipur vide notification no.B/3/2001-MOBC dated 20th August, 2005 invited application in the prescribed format from intending candidate belonging to economically backward non-scheduled tribe minorities (meant Muslims alone) for admission to professional (technical courses) such as medical, engineering Agriculture, etc.
