Imphal, September 28:
The 5th Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Day jointly organised by Apunba Manipur kanba Ima Lup (Amkil) and National Identity Protection Committee (Nipco) in collaboration with other civil bodies was observed at different places of the State today.
The observation is to commemorate the mass rally staged on this day five years back to denounce the alleged conspiracy hatched by the Government of India to create divisions amongst the people of Manipur on communal line.
representatives of various community converged at jubilee hall of Presidency College, Motbung to commemorate the day.
In line with the public resolution adopted during the 2000 rally cum meeting, the Motbung session decided on a unified opposition against any sinister attempt to break-up Manipur, complete removal of AFSPA 1958 and to submit a resolution copy each to the President of India, Prime Minister, Home Minister, the State Governor and chief Minister.
going back to history, chairman of JAC - Kanglatongbi to Kangpokpi - Aneh Chongloi, who is also the Kheljang village chief said that Kukis being a part and parcel of manipur since the time of kings is an indisputable fact.
History also provides enough proof of kukis assisting kings and princes of valley kingdom wherever they visited the hill areas, he said and expressed that the majority community today has an important role to play in mitigating grievances of all other communities.
Taking pot shots at the SPF Government on the Sadar Hills issue, Aneh Chongloi rued that the present Government is delaying conversion of Sadar Hills into a revenue district on flimsy excuses despite the fact that no less than Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's four predecessors had promised to comply with the sentiments and aspirations of the Sadar Hills people.
In reference to the CM's scepticism of conceding to Sadar Hills demand, the JAC chairman clarified that demand for elevation to the status of a revenue district has no connection with goal of Kuki homeland as O Ibobi Singh is contemplating.
On the CM's criteria for consent of other communities, particularly the Nagas, in creating Sadar Hills district, Chongloi questioned whether similar yardstick was applied and Kukis consulted when Ukhrul,
Tamenglong, Mao etc were conferred bifurcated.
Speaking on the occasion Amkil vice president Sitara Begum contended that time has come for every section of the society to introspect why women-folk are living under perpetual threat inspite of the enviable role enacted by the women as guardian of the society.
She stated that staying on night vigil to protect members of the society from harassments and curb activities of anti-social elements do not necessary mean emancipation of the women under any circumstances.
Social activist Joy Nongmaithem in his speech cited annexation of Manipur to the indian union as an important factor resulting in steady blurring of national character of the Manipuris which is being exploited by adversary forces to create intercommunity chasm conse quently leading to distrust and suspicion among the people.
Without taking names, Joy said instead of avenging rape of female folks in the hill areas and massacre of innocent civilians by uniformed personnel peace talk had not only blindfolded the presumed protector/s of human rights but is taking undue advantage of lull in armed confrontation to foment acts of terrorism.
Earlier, one minute silence was observed in remembrance of those who laid down their lives for protection of territorial and emotional integrity of Manipur.
