Orissa created a record of sorts with a 29-0 drubbing of Rajasthan in a Cluster II match of the 18th national Senior Women's Football championship that began here today.
In the other matches played today, host Manipur outplayed Jharkhand 8-0 in Cluster I while Tamil nadu outclassed Uttar Pradesh 3-0. Presenting a dominating performance at Mapal Kangjeibung, the Orissa eves opened the score from the opening minute through Sasmita Malik, who went on to net seven more goals in the match.
Pinky Bompal Magar, however, contributed maximum of nine goals with Gitanjali Khuntia (2), Surdhanjali Samantray (3), Suprabha Samat (2), Jarjali Sahoo, Supriya Rout Roy, Rasmita Patra, Alochana Senapati and Gomti Bora being the other scorers.
In Manipur's rout of Jharkhand at Khuman lampak Main Stadium, Th Tababi scored five of the hosts' goals as Ng bala, L Naobi Chanu and Y Kamala chipped in one apiece.
S Vasanthi (31st), R Kalpana (59th) and S Jeya Lakshmi (64th) scored in Tamil Nadu's win over UP in a Cluster IV match played at ESU ground, Wangkhei.
The opening ceremony of the championship, organised by All Manipur Football Association under the aegis of All India Football Federation, held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium was attended by Sports Minister N Biren and AMFA president A Santosh Kumar as the chief guest and president respectively.
