Alleging foul practices in the elections of 531 delegates of Imphal Urban Co-operative Bank Limited held today at GP Women's College here, the Election Management Committee of Shareholders of IUCB has demanded re-conduct of the elections.
Briefing to reporters here at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, secretary of the Election Management Committee of Shareholders of IUCB, Th Bimol informed that proxy voting was detected in the election held today.
Yengkhom Artika son of Lenin of Chajing Konjeng Leikai was found trying to cast vote using a fake I-card issued to the shareholders of the bank.
He was caught with fake I-card which written as issue under 15160 issued on 3/9/10 but escaped leaving behind the card, he said.
During brief intention, the person informed that the I-card was issued by the bank authority but later it was confirmed as fake one by the authority.
The committee had requested the general manager several times before the election schedule to verify the I-cards issued to the shareholders but all in vain as none took up necessary action, Bimol blamed.
No copy of passport photograph of the shareholder who had been issued I-card were also found not maintaining to the registration book keeping the record of the card holders.
This has compelled to think that some vested interest persons are trying to abolish the bank, he went on to observe.
Staff of the bank also tried not to issue I-card to the shareholders.
When members pressed to them hard, at some instances, they defended saying that the card had lost.
The election held today for electing 531 delegates of the shareholders was held today.
The 531 delegates are to elect nine members of the board of director of the bank which later the nine members have to elect the chairman of the board.
As malpractices were detected at the very first step of the election, apprehension of fault practices in next steps to come is feeling among the members of the committee, Bimol observed.
