Tragedy struck a newly married couple just five days ago when all their belongings, including those given by the bride's parental family as dowry, were reduced to ashes during a raging inferno in the house of the bride-groom.
The tragedy happened when they were gone for attending Mangani Chakkouba feast.
Properties worth several lakhs of rupees including the belongings of the newly married couple were turned into ashes when fire razed through the house located at Tera Loukram Leikai under Lamphel police station today.
The house was found completely burned when the newly married bride and bridegroom returned after the Mangani Chakkouba today at about 12.40 pm, along with their family, relatives and invitees.
The gutted wooden house belongs to Ksh Okendro (35).Despite hard effort of the fire-fighters of the Imphal fire service station, most of the belongings of the two-storeyed house were turned into ashes.
Two fire tenders were put in service to put the fire under control.
After struggle for about one hour, the fire was doused at about 2.50 pm.
Dowry of the wife of Okendro like the TV set, almirahs, clothing items, beds were destroyed by the fire which was estimated to be broke out from the bed room of the couple.
The fire was found razing the house when the new couple, family members, relatives and invitees came back after attending the Mangani Chakkouba.
Property worth around Rs 2.5 lakhs was estimated lost in the fire burnt incident.
The fire was believed to be broke out from a lighting candle in the room of the couple as it was power blackout time.
