Imphal, September 24: With three wins and a draw imphal West emerged as the champion team of the 3rd Girls u-17 Inter-District Football tournament which concluded at Khuman Lampak main Stadium today.

Faced with a must win situation against arch rivals imphal East today, imphal West girls received a major boost when the former conceded an own goal in the 68th minute.

A Kh Naocha Devi (IW) free kick from the left top of the rival box resulted in the opener when N Minakuma-ri's attempted clearance landed at her own goal. Sloppy defending cost Imphal West the lead as Y Kamala restored parity ten minutes later to delay the celebration. As either a draw or loss meant losing the title to the opposition, Imphal West girls made some blistering attacks at the rival goal in search for the championship score which finally came through E Bidyarani in the 78th minute.

earlier, in the first match, Bishnupur district girls aiming for runners-up spot went on the rampage demolishing Churachandpur district eves 21-0 to put pressure on Imphal West for whom a win against East would secure the title while losing meant having to content with third place. itarani led the Bishnupur district goal deluge with six of her shots finding the mark at regular interval. Continuing the momentum Binodini ensured her side stayed on course for the second top berth with five individual strike, as Roma and Devjani further bulged the lead with four apiece.

Bembem (2), Kiran (1) and Asha (1) also chipped in for the emphatic Bishnupur win.

However, the huge victory margin had little effect as Imphal west pipped East subsequently relegating Bishnupur to third place.
