The District Philatelic exhibition, 2005 and Saving Ban Exhibition, 2005 was organised under the aegis of Postal Services, Manipur, Department of Posts, India at the premises of Imphal Head Post Office here today.
Deputy Superintendent of Post Officers, Manipur Ksh Tomba, Commissioner Revenue of the State Government P Saratchandra, IAS and Joint Secretary (Finance & Expenditure) K Radhakumar graced the inaugural function as president, chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Revenue Commissioner P Saratchandra obser-ved that the Department of Post has been giving ben-efit to both the Government and the people.
While observing that the stamps collection is a useful and profitable hob-by, he hoped that organising such Philatelic exhi-bitions would spread awa- reness and encourage the people especially the stu-dents to take up the stamp collection seriously as hobby.
Systematic collection and study of postage sta-mps, postal stationary, pos- tal history and other associated society is an important and useful hobby, he said.
Through postal sta-mps issues by different countries including India, we can know and learn abo-ut other people, their life and culture, their land and natural resources, their socio-economic progress and achievement, he added.
With development in science and technology, the entire world is being considered as a global village.
To keep up pace with the development, a time has come when everyone should be computer literate.
In his address, K Radhakumar enumerating on the benefits being provided by the Department of Post to the people as well as on the usefulness of the Postal Saving and Postal Banking.
In his presidential address, Ksh Tomba appealed to the people for co-operation and support to the works being done by the Directorate of Postal Services for the welfare of the people.
