Imphal, September 24:
Highlighting absence of deve- lopment works in Tamenglong district inspite of repeated assurances the Bha-ratiya janata Party, Tamenglong District Committee today submitted a memorandum to the Chief minister O ibobi Singh demanding a white paper' on action taken report' on action Plan for the Economic Development of Tameng-long District' (December 2000-March 2002).The BJP representation also urged for dissemination of detailed report on utilisation of the Rs 160 crores National Games pro-ject funding, including con- structions of district level mini stadia, funds earmar-ked for horticulture project in Tamenglong district, progress of SSA project and other welfare schemes.
The party expressed strong resentment at continued negligence of the district inspite of successive Governments announcing ambitious plans to ensure development works reach nook and corner of the most backward district.
Referring to the November 10-11, 2000 special seminar held at the district headquarters under the joint initiative of the then State and Central Government with North eastern Council as sponsors the BJP unit described the action plan adopted at the congregation for economic development of the district as mockery to sentiment of the district people.
All the tall claims and promises made by State legislators for expeditious im- plementation of the seminar proposals and pledges to complete them within March 2002 is akin to adding salt to injury as welfare programme had been stagnant in the district for a prolong period, contended the BJP memo.
It further reminded the Chief Minister of the action plan including projects like improvement of road, power, telecommunication, public health and education sectors, autonomous district council election in February 2001, restoration of Chief judicial Magistrate's Court, augmentation of ITI, self employment generation, tribal welfare schemes, implementation of Central funded projects, food security in view of rodent menace etc.
The expectant people are awaiting implementation of the seminar pro- posals/recommendations for more than five years inspite of the fact that previous Governments as well the present one had failed to focus upon the district, the memo mentioned.
