Battalions under 26 Sector of HQ IGAR(South) celebrated the 64th Independence Day throughout Chandel district with traditional fervor and enthusiasm.
A press release issued by PRO, HQ IG AR (S) informed that the celebrations were started with the hoisting of the national flag by Brigadier SK Bhanot, Commander, 26 Sector at Pallel.
In his address, commander lauded the efforts of the local populace of Chandel in bringing peace, harmony and development in Chandel.
Personnel of 42 Assam Rifles participated in the celebrations at District Headquarters Chandel and the unit Band participated in the parade.
Various cultural programs and medical camps were also organised by 8 Assam Rifle, 37 Assam Rifles, 43 Assam Rifles 22 GRENADIERS, 29 Assam Rifles and 31 Assam Rifles at their respective locations.
15 Assam Rifles of 9 sector under HQ IGAR(South) celebrated 64th Independence Day at District Head Quarter Thoubal on August 15.W Rajen Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal accompanied by 15 Assam Rifles inspected the parade comprising of Assam Rifles and Police personnel similar celebration were also organized by 28 Assam Rifles.
Celebrations were also conducted by units of Assam Rifles in school and respective Posts of Ukhrul, Sangshak and Chassad.
The local populace attended in large numbers to form a part of the celebrations.
Message of Peace and harmony was give by distribution of sweets to the locals and school children.
Others Sectors of Assam Rifles under aegis of HQ IGAR (South) organised similar events as a part of the Independence Day celebration.
On the other hand, students and teaching staff of Eternal Spring English School, Sekta in Imphal East celebrated the Independence day for the first time, since establishment in 1988 on August 16.39 Assam Rifles under 9 Sector Assam Rifles of IGAR(S) joined the congregation of more than 1200 students and the teaching staff in their celebration of this auspicious day.
The principal unfurled the national tri-colour.
The impression of awe of admiration was evident on the students when the Guard of 39 Assam Rifles from nearby Chingarel Post presented the National Salute to the Tri-colours.
Sweets were distributed to students and the staff in celebrating this historical event.
The school has been providing quality affordable education to students of the nearby areas since 1988 and presently running classes upto Class X .
Troops of 31 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South), to commemorate the 64th Independence Day, hosted the Independence Cup Football tournament 2010 at Moreh from 05 Aug 10 to 14 August 10.The event witnessed talent from all communities of the Moreh town coming together championing the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
The tournament had a befitting conclusion with the final match played on August 14. Mr Bijoy Khoijam, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board of Manipur and Commandant 31 Assam Rifles were present during the occasion and gave away the prizes to encourage the players.
