Imphal, August 17 2010:
Condition of the highly dilapidated Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-53 is showing signs of marginal improvements, sending positive vibes to many.
A PWD engineer informed The Sangai Express that a loaded truck travelling from Jiribam to Imphal takes two/three days now whereas the same journey took 10 to 15 days sometime back.
Heavy machinery and equipment sent for repairing/developing the highway after it was entrusted to seven contractors are now being used for their right purposes which was not the case a few days back.
Earlier, the machinery were most of the time engaged in pulling up or pushing trucks which had either slipped or got stuck in the slushy tracks.

The contractors and their labourers could take up the repairing work as a large number of vehicles have been requisitioned by the Govt for transportation of goods along NH-39, notwithstanding the prohibition declared by the Transporters' and Drivers' Council, conveyed the engineer.
Imphal-Jiribam section of the highway has improved a bit in the meantime.
Vehicles getting stuck or slipping over slushy spots is longer witnessed on the highway.
However, the condition of the highway is far from satisfactory.
Nevertheless, it is improving steadily and its condition is now comparatively better.
