As a part of 'Remote Villages Electrification' Programme, Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) has distributed solar home lighting system and (village) street lighting system to every residents of seven villages located close to the Indo-Myanmar border in Chandel district's Khengjoy Block today.
It is informed that homes of remote villages would be electrified for the first time ever.
The solar lighting equipment were presented in the presence of Chandel AC MLA Thangkholun Haokip, DC (Chandel) H Deleep and Director (Manireda) L Manglem as the chief guest, president and guest of honour at a simple function held at Khongbarol village.

The solar lighting systems provided under a special scheme of Ministry of New Renewable Energy benefited 43 households of Gamphazol village, 36 in LH Jangnomphai, Seijang Theose (31), Thingpai (68), K selhoi (33), Nabin (37) and New Tuhong (46) .
Speaking to newspersons on the sideline of the function, nabin village chief Jangthang Mate disclosed that the only source of lighting homes is lantern with kerosene fuel purchased from Myanmar's Tamu town at Rs 20 per litre.
Thanking Manireda for the humane gesture, Jangthang expressed confidence that from now on the cherished aspiration to educate their children will materialise.
Meanwhile, speaking at the occasion MLA Thangkholun Haokip conveyed gratitude to the Government for provision of the home and street lighting equipment without which livelihood in the interior villages had been arduous.
DC (Chandel) advised the beneficiary villages/villagers to use the equipment in a sustainable manner while Manireda Director L Manglem informed that so far 150 villages in remote parts of the state have been covered by solar lighting systems.
The solar lamp distribution programme was also attended by ADC (Chandel) vice chairman and Council members.
