Imphal, August 17 2010:
Taking strong exception to the State Government's decision to expand NH-150 (Tidim Road) up to 38 metres between Keishampat Krishna Premi Oil depot and Malom Bazar, the Tidim Road Expansion Affected Land Owners' Association has urged the affected people not to extend any cooperation to Government officials who will come to conduct a survey tomorrow for the planned road expansion.
The land owners may extend cooperation to the officials only if it is confirmed that the road stretch would be expanded to 30 metres only, said president of the association, T Sanajaoba.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this evening, Sanajaoba said that the association and the people settled along Tiddim Road between Keishampat Krishna Premi Oil depot and Malom Bazar have no objection to the Government's development/ modernisation programmes.
What is unacceptable is the Government's sudden change of decision to expand the said stretch up to 38 metres as against 30 metres notified earlier.
It lacks rationality and logic to expand Tiddim Road up to 38 metres which will connect only one State while NH-39 which will connect with different countries was expanded up to only 30 metres, Sanajaoba asserted strongly.
Starting from the Chief Minister, relevant Government officials have gone on record about the Government's decision to expand Tidim Road between Keishampat Krishna Premi Oil depot and Malom Bazar up to 30 metres.
The same has been published in the State gazette in 2005 .
As for the stretch between Keishampat and Keishampat Krishna Premi Oil depot, people have no objection to the Government's plan to expand Tidim Road up to 38 metres as the Government has a plan to build an over-bridge on this stretch, Sanajaoba said.
The Government should retract its new decision to conduct survey for expansion of Tidim Road up to 38 metres.
He further appealed to all people concerned not to extend any kind of cooperation in case the Government decides to go ahead with the survey planned for tomorrow.
