Imphal, August 17 2010:
Hostellers of Manipur University today protested by blocking visitors from meeting the Vice Chancelor of the university.
The hostellers are not happy over the raising of mess fee from Rs 800 per month to Rs 1000 per month.
Blocking visitors from seeing the Vice Chancelor was reportedly triggered by the latter's attitude towards the leaders of the hostellers during a meeting this morning.
Reports said that Vice Chancelor Amuba Singh asked the representatives of the hostellers to first write down their names uncluding other details and he would send termination letters to their parents.
This incident had infuriated the student representatives triggering for the hostellers to bar visitors from entering the Vice Chancelor's office.
There are five hostels for male students and three for female students in the University.
The students of all the eight hostels then carried out sit-in-protest in the university campus.
The hostellers also did not attend classes for the day.
Meanwhile, a late evening report said that talks between the Vice Chancelor and the hostellers are going on.
