Former Chief Minister and President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Manipur unit, Radhabinod Koijam today lamented that the murder of the vice president of the party has showed that people in the state have no security at all.
Radhabinod Koijam who among leaders, workers of the party taking part in the offering of floral tributes to the lifeless body of the vice president of the party, Chungsei Haokip at New Chekon before transportation to the native village, Tuibong village today afternoon.
Chungsei Haokip, who had contested two times in the election to the State Assembly from Tengnoupal constituency, was shot dead by gunmen Sunday night in a hotel at New Checkon at about 7 pm.
Further speaking to reporters, Radhabinod said, NCP condemned the act of shooting to death of its one of the leaders who worked for the welfare of the people strongly.
Guns are available like toys in the state.
This has become Manipur a killing field and civilians have no security and the present government fails to protect the property of the people, he worried.
He also demanded booking of the culprit(s) at the earliest.
The deceased leader had took part in the NCP national conference held recently at Pune and yesterday itself also as a president of the party, he held consultation with the deceased on party matter and forthcoming elections to ADCs, Radhabinod said adding that the death of Chungsei Haokip is a great loser not only to the party but also for the state.
