The Manipur Human Rights Commission today furnished a copy of the recommendation made in a One Day Consultation Programme organised here in Imphal on April 12 last seeking amendment of certain provisions of the Constitution of India related with the protection of human rights.
The Manipur Human Rights Commission in association with All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) on April 12 last organised the consultative meeting on Human Rights and Indian Constitution and Human Rights in Armed Conflict situation at the conference hall of the commission, Lamphel.
The recommendation includes insertion of "Humam Rights recognized and proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nation" after the words "Equality of status and of opportunity" in the permeable of the Constitution of India.
Insertion of new clauses "Clause (2A) Human rights convenants/conventions recognized and proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations and signed and ratified by the India shall have the force of law for the purpose of part-III of the Constitution" and another "Clause (2B) "The state shaal not make any law which takes away or abridges the rights conferred by Clause (2A) and any other law made in contravention of any of such rights shall, to the extent of the contravention, be void" in the article 13 after its clause (2).The consultation meeting also recommended insertion of new articles on human rights, healthy environment and sustainable development as fundamental rights, Article 30A-right to human rights recognized and proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations, Article 30BRight to sustainable development.
Member of the right commission, Ng Nongyai said that copies of the recommendations furnished were forwarded to the secretary of department of law and social justice, Government of India with another same copy each to the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and Human Rights Commission in other states of the country.
