Atleast seven underground cadres and one 'over ground' worker of PREPAK have been arrested by the Manipur police in separate incidents on Sunday, according to official source.
In the first incident, two cadres of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were apprehended by police commandos, Imphal East and police commandos, Imphal West district at Konung Mamang, Imphal East district.
Both of them were involved in lobbing hand grenade at the residence of TT Haokip, former deputy speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly and the owner of Haokip Travel Agency, Thangal Bazaar injuring his 18 year old daughter, according to police.
They have been identified as Keithelakpam Santikumar @ S.K Singh (25) s/o K.Mani Singh of New Checkon, Imphal East district hailing from Patsoi Part III and Saikhom Hemanta @ Rakesh Singh (28) s/o S.Amuba @ Amu Singh of Nongmeibung Pung Makhong, Imphal East district.
Acting on a tip off, the police commandos of Imphal East district and Imphal West district conducted a search operation in and around Konung Mamang Sunday evening and nabbed the two cadres of PREPAK.
On verification, both of them revealed that they are active members of PREPAK and had joined 40 days back under one Shanti Singh of Wangoi and presently working under the command of one Nongdamba, finance commander of the organization who is out of the state.
They served extortion notices to the general public and were only trained on how to use bomb and escape.
They also disclosed that they were involved in lobbing hand grenade at the residence of T.T Haokip on April 9 injuring his 18 year old daughter for non compliance of the monetary demand, informed police.
Following their arrest, the police came to know about their plans to lob hand grenades at the residence of one Hanjamayum Joydev Sharma of Thangapat Mapan, Imphal East district for the non payment of monetary demand.
They were about to execute the plan under the instruction of one self styled s/s sergeant major Nongdamba of PREPAK, according to police official.
Two hand grenades, 6 live rounds of AK Rifle series and Nokia handset with Vodafone sim card were recovered from them following body search, stated the police sources.
In yet another incident, one overground worker of PREPAK (GS) and five cadres of Kangleipak Yawol Kanna LUP-Military Defence Force (KYKL-MDF) were apprehended by Thoubal police commandos, according to police official.
The PREPAK (GS) cadre has been identified as Khagembam Tomba @ Ahan Singh (58) s/o (L) Kh.
Nila Singh of Ngaikhong Siphai under Bishnupur district.
On verification, he disclosed that he harboured with the cadres of the organization in the extortion of money from the general public in and around Kakching Bazaar under the instruction of one Sunil Singh of PREPAK (GS).
The five KYKL-MDF cadres were apprehended by a combined team of Thoubal police commandos, 16 Maratha Light Infantry and OSCAR-80 from the general area of Seijang under Lamlai police station.
They have been identified as Moirangthem Sanjoy @ Goroba (26) s/o M.Thoiba Singh of Seijang Awang Leikai, Tayengjam Gunan Singh (29) s/o T.Netra Singh of Seijang Awang Leikai, Taorem Robindro @ Lemba (24) s/o T.Ibohanbi of Seijang Awang Leikai, Laishram Medish Singh (35) s/o L.Khamba Singh of Seijing Awang Leikai and Thongam James Singh @ Ibungo (23) s/o Th.Iboyaima Singh of Moirang Kampu Awang Leikai.
Based on the interrogation of Moirangthem Sanjoy and Tayengjam Gunan Singh the other three cadres of KYKL-MDF were apprehended from their respective homes.
They disclosed that they are the active members of KYKL-MDF and had joined the organization through one self styled s/s corporal Ratan @ Premjit Singh of Seijan village, stated the police official.
On further verification Taorem Robindro disclosed that he had joined the organization way back in the year 2003 through one Santa Achouba and got basic military training as 16th batch at Chandel district, Laishram and Thongam James had joined the organization through one s/s cpl Ratan @ Premjit of Seijang village and presently working under finance section under the command of one Boycha Singh of Sawombung village and Robert @ Sharat of Seijang village.
Thongam James and Laishram Medish were involved in handing over three AK Rifles, four 9mm pistols, about 1000 rounds of AK ammun, about 50 hand grenades to Boycha Singh and Awon Tangkhul of Tunkhoi village, according to police.
