The 12 Maratha LI posted at Tulihal Airport today organised a musical and sports equipment presentation programme worth Rs 2.5 lakh for the differently abled children of Centre for Mental Hygiene, Changangei.
Items distributed to the Centre, which the MLI unit had previously adopted, included four footballs, volleyballs, basketballs, sepaktakraw, handballs along with the nets, cricket bats, one key board Yamaha PSRE223, electric guitar, guitar processor, guitar AMP, pad drum, microphone condenser Ahuja, mixer 12 channel stranger, two loud-speakers of 200 watts, amplifier 400 watts, bass drums of size 24 and 14 inches, one flute set, violin, saxophone, acoustic guitar and one table set.
A PRO release quoted IGAR (S) Maj Gen CA Krishnan as saying during his address to the staff and students, that it was indeed a matter of honour for the battalion and the Army to be associated with the Centre and also appreciated the high motivation of the students.
Stressing on the need to understand sentiment of the differently abled students so as to help integrate them to the mainstream, the Major General also pledged Army's every possible assistance in the Centre's objective to guide the students with correct exposure and motivation, the release informed.
The staff and students of the Centre applauded efforts taken by the battalion in promoting value based military-civic coordination and thus helping the society's progress, it added.
