Governor Gurbachan Jagat has greeted the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Khongjom Day which is to be observed tomorrow.
In his message to the people, Jagat said that as all are aware, Khongjom Day is observed in memory of the heroic acts of the Manipuris against the mighty British force on this day in 1891.Why and how the Manipuris stood firmly against the British for the cause of Manipur's freedom in 1891 is also well known to us all today.
In observing the solemn Day and paying homage to the valiant heroes of Manipur, who sacrificed their lives at the battle field of Khongjom and other war-fronts for the cause of their motherland, we should resolve to forget the past bitterness and indifference and strengthen the bonds of peace and harmony amongst us, which will ultimately bring about all round development of the State and its people, the Governor added.
