Imphal, April 22 2010:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has assured that counterparts of the State Government would be communicated to ensure the protection of the Manipuris staying
outside the State.
Talking to mediapersons at the conference hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat today, Ibobi said as the Manipuris staying outside the State are not under its protection, the State Government can only request its counterparts for their security and protection.
It may be noted here that after a UG group operating in Manipur gave an ultimatum to the migrant workers to leave the State by May 31, CPI (Maoist) had announced its decision of issuing a counter-ultimatum to the students of Manipur enrolled in various educational institutions of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Maintaining that influx of migrant workers in search of livelihood cannot be stopped, Ibobi pointed out that among the migrant workers living in Manipur, there are some of them who have settled here for more than 100 years.
He said that whether it is in the hands of the UGs or due to a BP stroke or a road accident, death is something inevitable to all human beings.
But while the migrant workers are here, the Government would provide fullest security to them.
Informing that he has heard about the undue pressures being given to some non-Manipuris to sell off their properties and leave, Ibobi said that the Government would not tolerate such undue pressures.
Information about some individuals purchasing properties at Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar of Khwairamband Market as well as Mantripukhri area which are not proportionate to their known sources of income has also been received.
So, meeting of the State Cabinet today has decided to investigate into the matter so that necessary legal action could be initiated, Ibobi disclosed, adding that even Ministers who were found to be amassing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income or in the name of some other individuals would not be spared.
The decision of the Cabinet would be put in practice with immediate effect, Ibobi said.
