Manipur paid dearly for a penalty miss as Nagaland carved out a solitary goal win in football competition of the 24th North East Games at Shillong today.
Inspite of the shocking loss, Manipur added 10 gold medals to the tally today with judokas providing eight of them and K Usharani fetching the lone yellow metal in karate competition.
gold medal winners in judo competition included L Ajit (55 kg), Ch Arun (66), Th Gangarani (63), H sunibala (63+), Ng Surchandra (50), Kh ajit (73), H Dhanapyari (44), L Sandhya (48) and Kh chaoba (52) .
Moreover, Kh Hemabati provided the 57 kg silver to the total as P Herojit (60) and K Pradip (81) swell the medal haul with one bronze medal each.
Manipur's duo of S Joychandra and Th Dharmendra won the tenth gold medal with victory in the men's table tennis doubles.
Apart from Usharani's triumph, Th Susan bagged a silver in karate followed by bronze medal hauls by W Sengoisana, L Sushma and A Sumita in the same event.
In athletics, Ch Sonia secured the silver in 1500 metres race with Dharmendra claiming the men's silver over the same distance and Th Nanao the bronze.
Three bronze medals were also added by State athletes when Rameshchandra (long-jump), M Shanta (javelin) and N Santa (discuss) made podium finishes.
At the end of the Games' penultimate day today, Manipur's tally include 29 gold, 14 silver and 21 bronze medals.
The football team failed to advance to the summit round when Saku Temjen scored Nagaland's match-winner in the 41st minute.
Manipur had a chance to restore parity when the match official awarded a penalty in the 55th minute which Naoton missed.
