Imphal, April 22 2010:
Alleging that a substantial percentage has been deducted by KNA and HTC from the compensation amount entitled to families affected by the Integrated Check Post, Moreh, the affected pattadars have threatened to launch various modes of stir in case the Government fails to prevail upon KNA and HTC to pay back the deducted amounts.
Speaking to media persons at Pallel, chairman of the Integrated Check Post Semjathang Haokip decried the deduction made by KNA and HTC from the small amount given as compensation after the villagers were evicted from their homesteads.
The stoic silence maintained by the Government against such injustice indicated that it shares little concern for the weaker sections of the society, Semjathang inferred.
KNA wing commander Ngamjatong and home secretary Thangpao deducted a large amount from the compensation amount of 90 pattadars at Moreh.
Sensing possibility of such underhand practice, the JAC has been demanding distribution of the compensation amount at Imphal.
Notwithstanding the demand of the people, the compensation amount was released to UBI, Moreh branch.
The JAC appealed to the Government and relevant authorities to distribute compensation amounts at Imphal and affect recuperation of the amount deducted from some pattadars at the earliest.
In case the Government fails to respond positively, the JAC will be constrained to launch various modes of agitation, Semjathang said.
