The 40th anniversary of Earth Day was celebrated today in the state too like in other parts of the globe, stressed the need of concerted efforts to fight climate change and build a global green economy.
Unless, checks the fast degrading environmental condition with a concerted efforts, it would be hard to stop the global warming phenomenon, observed chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board, E Dwijamani speaking at one of the functions organised by the Standard Robart Higher Secondary in association with Manipur Pollution Control Board at the school premises, Canchipur.
The earth is becoming warmer day by day as the natural environmental condition is degrading at its fast rate.
Everybody should take it as their indispensable duty to plant trees so as to replenish the forest stock which in turn would help in controlling the climatic condition, the chairman called for.
In due course of time, development will comes up.
Various dams and projects are also constructing despite knowing that such projects give great impact to the environment.
Uses of smoke emitting vehicles of different kinds are also increasing.
It all brings by development but every body needs to take care of giving impacts to the environment, he added.
Without strong determination, environmental degradation could not be checked.
There is a commitment of the people as for instant despite best effort to clean, Nambul River could not be free for pollution unless people leave the habit of dumping waste and debris into the river, he said.
In the function presided over by principal of the Standard Robart Higher Secondary School, member secretary of the state pollution control board, K Jagadishwor, prof S Dorendrojit, department of Chemistry, MU, retired principal of DM College of Science, G Tomba and member secretary of DISC, Thoubal, Ch Purnimashi attended as guests of honour.
