Imphal, July 17 2010:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Imphal West District Council conducted inspection drive to 11 Government schools of Imphal West district today.
The students body came accross inadequate infrastructure and staff in almost all the schools namely, Ngasi Rashtrapati Primary School, Keishamthong, Trival Primary School, Lamding Laningkhul, Ngasi Rashtrapati High School, Public Girls' High School, Lamdeng Khunou, Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School, Ideal Girl Primary School, Mayang Langjing, Mayang Langjing LP School, Mayang Langjing High School, Phayeng High School, Phayeng Primary School, and Heibongpokpi Lairenkabi Primary School.
Even though almost all the schools have inadequacy of infrastructure and staff, a major set back could be seen at Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School.
Once a premier institute of the State, the school is now plagued with lack of teachers and infrastructure.
Out of total 54 teachers, 23 have been engaged in Census works, while the remaining 31 teachers also do not attend school regularly.
Eleven teachers were present in the school when the inspection team reached the school.
Desks and benches are years old and not adequate while there is also lack of non-teaching staff as well.
As the new school building is under construction, students are not able to study in peace due to noisy atmosphere.
DESAM, Imphal West Council urged the State Government not to engage teachers in Census works and final hearing of election in future as it affects study of the students in Government schools.
DESAM also urged the Government to send the required staff and construct toilet and school building.
It also appealed to maintain quality in building construction.
