Noted writer Khumanthem Prakash was honoured by confering the "Writer of the Year-2010" award on him by the Naharol Shahitya Premi Samiti, Manipur on the occasion of the conclusion of the one year long celebration of golden jubilee of the Samiti today.
Renowned film maker Aribam Shyam Sharma was the chief guest at the valedictory function and pesident of Samiti, L Joychandra presided.
Former presidents and general secretaries some of whom had passed away, and editors of "Wakhal" journal were honoured by presenting mementoes to them on the occasion.
Aribam Shyam Sharma handed over a memento and a traditional muffler to Khumanthem Prakash and presented the "Writer of the Year-2010" award to him formally.

Expressing gratitude to the Naharol Shahitya Premi Samiti, Khumanthem Prakash said, he felt extremely happy with the honour.
He said, among the approximately 25 lakh population of Manipur, those who are involved in literature are very few.
The number of people who were actively involved in the works of literature could be about 10 thousand only.
However, it is not the number that is important in considering the contributions to literature.
It is the value of whatever contributions we have that is important, he said.
Prakash further said that it is because of the quality of the contibutions to literature that enables our writers to bag national awards in the field of literature.
As such the quality of Manipuri literature is nothing less than the vast Indian literature, he said.
Chief guest of the functin A Shyam Sharma said, literature is something which can not be separated from human life.
Though the number of writers is increasing in Manipur, the habit of reading books is losing.
It may be because of the advancement of computer technology.
However, nothing is possible without books, the renowned film maker said.
Eulogising the contributions made by Khumanthem Pakash to Manipuri literature, Shyam Sharma said that Prakash does not only write short stories but also a writer who writes in various aspects of literature.
In all, 42 persons who were former presidents, some of whom had already died, and editors of "Wakhal" journal were also honoured on the occasion.
